Hakuba Valley: Experience the Might of Japan’s Mountains

The charm of Hakuba’s Mountain Resorts lies up high. With convenient gondolas and lifts leading to the clouds above, tourists will find it easy to dive into the nearby nature and take in spectacular sights without the requirement for a car or any intense mountaineering. Enjoy mountain biking, trekking/hiking trails, camping, and admire the vibrant alpine flora that fills the forests (and don’t forget about the natural volcanic hot springs either). So, what are you waiting for? Hakuba Valley is ready for you!

Nozawa Onsen: The Village in the Valley of Water

Nozawa Onsen is a unique community that lives alongside its rich blessing of water, whose traditions and lifestyle have continued on since the Edo Period (17th Century). While best-known for its winter fire festival and world-class ski resorts, visitors in the warmer months will be well-greeted by natural hot springs bubbling up the month’s prior melted snow and no shortage of delicious food and sake made from the area’s crystal-clear spring water. Get swept away in the wonder of this quaint valley village this green season; after all, why not?

Shiga Kogen: A Land Ripe with Life

The beauty of the green season in Shiga Kogen is truly overwhelming, with vast blue skies and majestic, towering mountains. A variety of alpine plants bloom in a dazzling array of colors, and the fresh greenery offers a soothing atmosphere. It’s like a paradise, with breathtaking landscapes stretching as far as your eyes can see. Stop by anytime to see why Shiga Kogen is a recognized UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and see internationally-acclaimed sightseeing spots first-hand, such as the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park.

Myoko: Summer fun around a sacred Niigata mountain

Winter or summer, the fun in Myoko is based around the mountain of the same name. Mt. Myoko was once known as Mt. Shumisen, the mountain at the center of the Buddhist universe. In the past climbing was only allowed one day of the year, and thousands would head up for a religious experience. Today it is still a popular climbing destination (and not just one day a year), and one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, as are nearby Mt. Hiuchi, Mt. Takatsuma and Mt. Amakazari. There are a number of golf courses on the east side of the mountain, fishing and boating on beautiful Lake Nojiri, Naena Waterfall (one of Japan’s top 100), light hiking trails, and plenty of places for summertime barbecues and other fun. In September, the mountains come alive in brilliant autumn colors.
